The major sources of drinking water in hills are small rivers and rivulets locally called gadhera. For taping these ources a masonry walls of cement concrete are constructed across the rivulets, which generally get damaged or washed away during heavy rains causing interruption to water supply scheme. Jal Sansthan has innovated "Uttaranchal Koop" to solve this problem. This technique is sustainable, less expensive and helpful in managing the quality water supply. This initiative has been awarded National Urban Water Award 2008 for good initiative by Ministory of Urabn Developement, Govt. of India.
